Bringing Home Baby Ease the Transition
Giving birth is a wonderful and special time. After you have given birth
you will want to bring your new baby home and spend time getting to know
your new baby and relax. But the first few weeks at home can be
extremely hectic if you're not careful. You can prevent that overwhelmed
feeling with some basic preparations before your baby arrives.
Plan Ahead for Company
Once you get your new little one home you will have plenty of relatives
and friends anxiously wanting to see him. And while you certainly want
to share your blessing with others you will want to control those
visits. Informing friends and family beforehand what your preferences
for visitors will help. Have your spouse run interference and don't be
afraid to say, "Not right now."
Prepare for Meals
Another way to make your first few weeks at home easier is to have meal
times already thought out. Make up several freezer meals, so your
family, can simply thaw and pop in the oven. Don't hesitate to ask those
close to you to help out by bringing in a meal. This is a good time to
put away some extra money for take out night. You want to spend your
time recuperating not cooking.
Make Your Day Easier
On of the things you can do to make your day go easier once you get home
is to make sure you have everything you need for the baby. Make sure you
have plenty of diapers, formula, nursing pads and other baby supplies.
Prepare diaper changing stations at where you will be. It's a simple as
having a small basket with everything you need to change the baby in
various rooms such as the living room. This is especially helpful if you
live in a two story house. It will save you plenty of trips up and down
the stairs.
Think of New Siblings
If you already have children at home they are going to be excited about
the baby too. You want to include them as much as possible in whatever
is going on. Consider having a big brother or big sister cake ready for
the baby's arrival. Also you might want have small gifts wrapped and
ready to give to your children when others bring gifts for the new baby.
This can help prevent jealousy over the new one. Also giving younger
children especially a particular "job" that is just theirs, such as
allowing them to put the baby's socks on, can make them feel very
special.
By doing these few simple things before the baby comes you can make your
first few weeks at home easier on both you and the baby. Planning ahead
can allow more rest and relaxation on your part and allow you to recover
much faster from the birth of your baby.
